Change Departments


Overview

The Change Department function is used to move an existing stock item from one department to another. When the department is changed, Retail Edge automatically generates a new Stock # (SKU) based on the numbering sequence of the selected department.

Accessing Change Department

  1. From the Edge Main Screen, click STOCK.
  2. From the menu on the left, expand Stock.
  3. Select Change Dept.

Locating the Item

Search for the item you want to move to a different department.

Note: If the search criteria are broad, multiple items may appear. Ensure the correct item is selected before proceeding.

Selecting the New Department

  1. A window will display the selected item(s). Open the Department drop-down list at the top.
  2. Select the new department for the item and click OK.

Confirming the Change

  1. confirmation pop-up will appear explaining the change. Review and click OK to proceed.

  1. A second pop-up will advise that the SKU has been updated based on the new department.

Accessing the Updated Item

If you search for the item using the old Stock #, the system will display a message indicating the item number has changed and ask if you want to open the new item entry.

Best Practices

  • Confirm the correct item before changing departments.
  • Be aware that changing the department creates a new Stock #.
  • Use the new Stock # when searching for the item in the future.
  • Avoid changing departments unless necessary, as it affects item identification and reporting.
