Creating and Printing Signage

Creating and Printing Signage

Overview

The Signage function in The Edge allows you to design and print product signage for promotions, sales, or store branding. You can create customised sign formats with multiple text lines, fonts, images, and layout options. Signage templates can then be applied to stock items or sales events for consistent in-store displays.

Creating a New Sign Format

  1. Go to Administrative → Sign Formats.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter a Sign Name (e.g. Christmas).
  4. Select a Signage Template Layout on the left side.

Configuring Text Lines

You can use up to 4 lines of text. Each line can include:

  • Prefix/Suffix: Additional text such as RRP or Sale Price.
  • Data Field: Item details such as Retail Price, Discount, Design #, Description, Marketing Description, or Brand.
  • Format: How values display (e.g. 9999, $9,999, 99%).
  • Font & Size: Select font type and size per line.
  • Alignment: Left, Right, Centre, or Fit.

Adjusting Layout and Margins

  • # Across / # Down: How many signs fit across and down the page.
  • Page W / Page Ht: Page width and height in inches.
  • Page Margins: Non-printable margins on the page (in inches).
  • Sign Margins: Border or cell padding around each sign (in inches).
  • Cut Guides: Prints a dotted line around each sign as a cutting guide.
  • Stock #: Prints a stock number at the top of each sign for easy stock matching.

Adding Images

Click Add Image and select from: Acquire, Copy from memory stick, Copy File, Use File, or Select Source. You can also add the item’s stock image so each sign prints with its product photo.

Managing multiple images:

  • The first image sits at the bottom of the stack.
  • For stacked images, use transparent .png files.
  • Adjust opacity with the slider.
  • Resize, reposition, and align as required.

Best Practices

  • Use descriptive names for signage templates for easy identification.
  • Always check that auto-pricing is enabled before starting a sale-related signage print.
  • Use transparent .png images for stacked layers to avoid background blocks.
  • Preview signage before printing in bulk to confirm formatting.
  • Adjust margins to match the media type to avoid cut-off designs.
